FAQ
This Fifty Shades trilogy is actually the reason why I became an author. Crazy, I know, lol. So when I was about 19 years old, I became homeless, secretly living at the office I worked at, so I was searching for an escape, anything that would help me forget the struggles I was facing. And I remember at that time, there was a huge buzz about Fifty Shades of Grey, and my boss at the time had mentioned that she had a copy but wasn’t really a fan and said she didn’t understand what the hype was all about.
For context, at that point in my life, I had never read a novel all the way through before, but I was intrigued to find out if the hype was true or not, so I asked her to lend me her copy, and she happily obliged. Once everyone had left the office for the day, I began reading, and I kid you not, I could not stop turning the pages. Now, for a non-reader like myself at the time, I finished the first book in about three days, I believe, lol, and then went on to use the money I had saved up for food to purchase the second and third books and read the complete series in a week and my mind was blown. But what I loved about those books were not the sex scenes. To be honest, at 19, I barely knew much about sex anyway, so a lot of it went over my head but I was so drawn by the love story between the characters and loved seeing them grow and evolve throughout the book.
I wanted them to see that no matter where people come from, they love just the same and that love should not be limited to race, ethnicity, religion, or social background. I also want them to learn that it’s okay to choose themselves and find happiness with the reflection they see in the mirror.
“Love can be found in the most unlikely places, with the most unlikely people, in the most unpredictable moments, so always open your heart to the possibility of the unknown.” – Author Fatima Alabi
I have learnt a lot about myself as a person, which has helped me shape my brand. I have also discovered new skills and abilities I never thought possible. It has opened my mind to find business opportunities within my book and brand as a whole, especially within marketing. I have learnt how to grow my social network, which has presented beneficial brand collaborations leading to more exposure and opportunities
I plan to expand beyond my book to other business ventures within the book itself, get the audiobook out, and release the remaining two books in the trilogy. I am currently working on opening a cafe I created in the book in my home country, Nigeria, which is set to open by mid-2025. I will also create merchandise surrounding the book’s theme that readers can enjoy.
