I was introduced to this book through an online "bookclub" and was immediately attracted to the book cover. I know I know, dont judge a book by its cover right? Well... wrong in this case. The book itself was just as intriguing as the book cover. The book cover screamed brilliant, powerful, beautiful, and that is exactly how the main character (Emilyn) was portrayed in this book. The author did a great job at capturing my attention and kept me coming back for more as I needed to know "what happens next?!". The down side: the book ended lol I'm looking forward to the hopefully coming soon follow up to this book as I am still left wondering what happens next.

This book drew me in from the first page. I did not want to put it down. The multiple POVs and timelines wove together seamlessly and kept me turning the page to find out what would happen next. I love the unlikely heroes trope, and Lee did this masterfully with humor and a mix of different characters. Emilyn was a strong but realistic person put in a tough situation that she had to manage while her journey of self-discovery pulled my heartstrings. Because it was a modern fantasy, it had an almost sci-fi feel to it, which I adored. The strong friendships, new and old, kept me invested in the story and characters. Honestly, this was such a great fantasy read, and if you like epic fantasy with high stakes, strong characters, and unique magic systems, you will LOVE this book. The one negative I will say (and it's a small one) is there is a huge character cast, and many of them have the same suffix (i.e -lyn). That made it hard for me to keep the characters straight at the beginning, but once I delved deeper into the book, I was fine.

It is amazing to me that this is the author's first published book. Yes, there were typos and some sentence structure errors, but overall, I loved it. I'm definitely excited to read the next book. Please publish soon! It was also extremely amazing to me that he was able to reveal his characters "self talk" in such a way that I felt like all of their innermost thoughts and feelings were mine at some point in my own life. Therefore, I felt very connected to all the characters in his book. Way to go Jeffrey Lee! You certainly know how to dig deep during life's trials and tribulations. Keep "stringing stars" for us all!

Empire of Strings: the Space Between Souls was such an interesting a creative read that made me stop and wonder 'how can anyone come up with such a cool idea'. I don't read a lot of fantasy novels that aren't based in medieval times or realism but the premise of this novel, of this world Jeffrey created were so detailed, intricate, and paralleled our own humanity that it didn't matter what I'm used to reading. The characters, were distinct and brought their own elements into the story, making the read so entertaining and amusing that it reminded me of my own family and our bantering. I found myself tearing up and trying not to cry at points when delving into some of the character's backstories and their pains (oh Jaquelyn !). It was wonderful to see all the characters go through their separate journeys of self-discovery and strength, to come together as a family in the end, still able to depend on one another, to support and encourage as well as gaining the confidence to trust themselves and their abilities.

Jeffrey Lee was born in 1994 in Indianapolis, Indiana. His love for stories like Star Wars, Harry Potter, and the Percy Jackson series ignited his kinship with the fantastical world and his passion for storytelling.

He often found comfort in those fantastical characters, and soon developed a passion for creating his own at a very young age, though it would be a long while before any of these saw the light of day. As he began to discover the kind of person he wanted to be, he grew a passion for these ideas and how they could help others in the way stories helped him.

With encouragement from friends and family and his long path of self-discovery and identity, he found his passion and this led to his debut novel Empire of Strings: The Space Between Souls, where he explores the themes of identity and self-discovery and their ever-changing nature and perception.

1. What Inspired You to Write This Book?

I wrote this book because I love stories. The Harry Potter series is a favorite of mine, and its combination of creativity, magic, and suspense was inspiring to me. I find being immersed in a story and invested in what’s to come very exciting, so I wanted to create something that would allow readers to do just that.

2. What will your readers gain from your book?

In addition to being entertained, I hope my readers will see characters in difficult circumstances and feel they’re not alone in their real-life struggles. I hope that my characters’ ability to find a way forward will inspire readers to look for silver linings and that their successes as a team and struggles when divided show readers the importance of togetherness.

3. What was your unique quotient for this project?

One thing that makes my story unique is the shift in perspective. Readers get to see the events of the book unfold through the eyes of a variety of characters. This provides readers with additional information and adds layers to the story. Readers get to know each character a little more while developing a more complete picture of what’s happening in the book.

4. How did becoming an author help in your brand/business?

Becoming an author has opened the door to new opportunities. It allowed me to express my creativity in a way that helped me connect with different people and be a part of a new community. Through social media, in-person events, and more, I’ve had the chance to meet new people, share new experiences, and even support other authors in their journeys to become published.

5. What are your future plans as an author?

Moving forward, I will continue writing The Rodney Brothers series. I have a lot more of this story to give, and I’m excited to see my first two books continue to evolve.
